Accreditation means the formal recognition of the technical and organizational competence of an authority to execute a specific service as described in the scope of accreditation. Competence is the key to transparency, confidence and comparability.
The general requirements for accreditation are defined by the standards of the serie ISO/IEC 17000 and by other normative basics. This first chart gives an overview over the standards for accredited bodies.
The Swiss Accreditation Service examines and accredites conformity assessment bodies (CAB) - i.e. calibration and testing laboratories, inspection and certfication bodies as well as reference material producers and proficiency testing providers - according to international standards.
