Medical laboratories - important information

Laboratories with accreditation according to ISO/IEC 17025 (type STS)

Accreditation of medical laboratories only according to the ISO 15189 standard

With EA Resolution 2022 (52) of November 23, 2022, all medical laboratories have to be accredited according to ISO 15189 in the future.

The transition period for the transfer of medical laboratories accredited under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 (Swiss Testing Service STS) to the new standard ISO 15189:2022 (Swiss Medical Testing Service SMTS) is set at 5 years from the publication date of the above resolution. Consequently, the last day of validity of the previous standard ISO/IEC 17025:2017 for the accreditation of medical laboratories is November 23, 2027.

Laboratories with accreditation according to ISO 15189 (type SMTS)

Adaptation of medical laboratory accreditation to the new ISO 15189:2022 standard

The ISO - International Organisation for Standardisation - has revised ISO 15189:2012. The transition of medical laboratory accreditation to the new ISO 15189:2022 standard is subject to a three-year transition period.

Aussagekraft schweizerischer Zertifizierungen unter der Akkreditierung im In- und Ausland

Aktuell wird die Rechtsunsicherheit betreffend den Export von Medizinprodukten nach bisherigem Recht unter dem MRA CH-EU in die EU diskutiert. Betroffen ist dabei unter anderem die Anerkennung der Zertifikate von altrechtlichen Medizinprodukten durch die EU, die von den Übergangsfristen in der EU profitieren. Für weitere Informationen zum Export von altrechtlichen Medizinprodukten in die EU verweisen wir an das SECO und die Swissmedic.

Die Aussagekraft schweizerischer Zertifizierungen unter der Akkreditierung der SAS ist davon nicht tangiert. Solche Zertifizierungsdokumente bspw. zu den internationalen Normen ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 13485, ISO 22000 behalten im Inland wie im Ausland ihre aktuelle Aussagekraft.

Accreditation symbols

As previously communicated and according to art. 42a of the AkkBV, as from January 1st 2016, solely the new accreditation symbols are allowed to be used.

For certification bodies: If the accreditation symbol appears on certificates, the new accreditation symbol has to be used at the latest on the occasion of the next renewal of certification.
